The project
I am Giorgia, an architect by training and a seamstress by passion. I run a small atelier in Milan where I develop tailoring projects.
La culla di nana is a project I care a lot about, because I believe that there are so many cheap and dangerous industrial materials on the market today, which do not protect the fragility and delicacy of a newborn baby.
La culla di nana designs and manufactures natural products for children’s cradles and to do so, recovers traditional values, using only fabrics made from organic and biological fibres, each with its own intrinsic properties, offering products strictly handmade in italy.
The decorations are a simple and modern reinterpretation of traditional grandmotherly embroideries and are either crocheted in 100% cotton or embroidered. The decorations, crocheted or embroidered, can be washed in the washing machine on a gentle care programme, thus enabling daily use of our products. Added to all this is a strong sense of ethics to combat exploitation at work and the desire to produce sustainable objects that respect the environment.

The materials
La culla di nana uses only natural materials with inherent hypoallergenic, anti-inflammatory, breathable, temperature-regulating, and moisture-reducing properties.
We use fibres such as 100% organic cotton, bamboo, seaweed (seacell), aloe vera, and cellulose fibre (lyocell) for the bedding, while the upholstery is made of organic wool, kapok, cellulose fibre, and regenerated feathers.

The search for sustainable materials for la culla di nana is a constant work in progress.
Here are the properties of some of the most commonly used fibres in our products.
The fabrics
Cotton produced by 100% organic farming, often also biodynamic, is made using natural methods and substances that do not harm the environment.
Wool
It comes from responsible breeding. Washing is carried out only with natural or highly biodegradable and non-toxic auxiliaries. Acid baths, charring, and mothproofing treatments are not performed.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera has soothing, healing, moisturising, and emollient powers. It improves the appearance of the epidermis, prevents allergies, itching, eczema, and slows down ageing.
Bamboo
Because of its fast growth, it does not need human intervention or any additives. Bamboo is a fibre with exceptional properties: extremely soft, with a hand feel comparable to silk, it is resistant, naturally anti-microbial, bacteriostatic, and highly breathable.
SeaCell Algae
Seaweed fibre is produced from the powder of a particular seaweed. The fibre is completely biodegradable, rich in minerals and vitamins and promotes remineralisation of the epidermis. It has anti-inflammatory effects, beneficial in dermatological treatments.

The fillings
Blend Kapok, Lyocell, Wool, PLA
A blend of high-quality fibres: Kapok warm and lightweight; Lyocell – textile fibre derived from the eucalyptus plant, breathable, temperature regulating, anti-microbial, soft, non-shrinking, quick-drying; washable wool that does not shrink or felt; PLA – soft wadding made from vegetable substances polymerised by natural fermentation, soft, hypoallergenic, antibacterial and does not retain odours.
Kapok
A totally organic fibre as it arises spontaneously in nature, it is the lightest fibre in the world with an excellent thermal capacity. Smooth, silky, washable, and water-repellent.
Bavarian Wool
Merino wool known for its temperature-regulating properties, body moisture absorption, and antimicrobial properties that help keep garments odour-free.
Wool up
Pre-consumer recycled wool filling made from valuable wool yarn waste, which preserves all the properties of virgin wool. A soft and warm filling that is breathable, thermoregulating, and eco-friendly.
